NEW YORK - To commemorate the 10th anniversary of the terrorist attacks on New York and Washington in 2001 and honor the memory of the victims, the Mets will wear the hats of first responders and service agencies for their game against the Chicago Cubs on Sept. 11.
Former Mets pitcher John Franco, a New York native, will throw out a ceremonial first pitch to Mike Piazza, whose memorable homer provided the decisive runs in the first baseball game played in New York after the attacks.
Former manager Bobby Valentine and former players Todd Zeile and Robin Ventura also will participate in a pregame ceremony.
Franco, Valentine, Zeile and Ventura took part in a conference call with reporters Wednesday, recalling some of their memories of 9-11 and the days that followed.
