Non-nursing college graduates can become registered nurses in just 12 months. With some universities and colleges offering seven-month accelerated nursing degree programs, a non-nurse holder of a bachelor?s degree or a higher degree can complete the required BSN degree to be able to take the NCLEX-RN exam and get the RN license in a year?s time.

Although a number of nursing students earn their RN or BSN, only a select few go on to earn their Master?s degree in Nursing. Chamberlain College of Nursing students now also have a time-saving opportunity to earn a masters degree from the college along with a masters degree in business administration from DeVry University, both of them online. This new degree program allows qualifying students to transfer their Chamberlain College of Nursing credits so that they need only take six additional courses through DeVry University, a Chamberlain College of Nursing announcement noted.

Concordia University?s degree is called Second Degree Accelerated BSN Program, which can be completed in three semesters. It includes 90 hours of clinical work in a public health facility to make them ready for their California Public Health Certificate application and clinical work in medical-surgical nursing, maternal-child nursing, pediatric nursing and psychiatric nursing. The program of the University of Massachusetts in Boston takes 15 months and requires applicants to commit full time to the program. It combines online learning and classroom sessions and uses adult learning styles. The University of North Dakota?s nurse degree program, called Baccalaureate Accelerated Curriculum, is offered in 4 academic terms and equals curriculum courses and credits offered under the conventional BSN program.

Registered nurses and others interested in enrolling in bachelors degree programs and higher in nursing can find scholarships available through colleges and universities. Private scholarships also are often available through non-profit associations, professional organizations and more. In addition to online scholarship searches available through fastweb, scholarships.com and others, students can refer to scholarship searches offered by the US Department of Education, the US Department of Labor and the non-profit College Board. Some scholarship providers require that students first complete a Free Application for Federal Student Aid, which is available online.
